Origin\u00e0riament, facilitaven el festeig i els matrimonis entre els joves. La m\u00fasica de C\u00e9ilidh sovint la proporciona un assortiment de viol\u00ed, acordi\u00f3, flauta, xiulet de llauna, pipes, bodhr\u00e1n (tambor irland\u00e8s) i en \u00e8poques m\u00e9s recents tamb\u00e9 percussi\u00f3 i baix el\u00e8ctric. Aquesta m\u00fasica \u00e9s alegre i animada i els passos b\u00e0sics es pot aprendre f\u00e0cilment.
