Destaca per la seva <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-0-color\">cresta taronja amb puntes negres<\/mark><\/strong>, que obre en forma de ventall quan s\u2019excita o se sent amena\u00e7ada. El seu plomatge combina tons marronosos amb <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-0-color\">ratlles blanques i negres a les ales i la cua<\/mark><\/strong>, donant-li un aspecte molt elegant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Viu sobretot en <strong>zones obertes<\/strong>, com camps, prats i vores de boscos, i s\u2019alimenta principalment d\u2019<strong>insectes<\/strong> que busca a terra amb el seu bec llarg i corbat. A Catalunya \u00e9s un ocell estiuenc habitual, tot i que <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">a la Ribera d&#8217;Ebre es pot veure tot l\u2019any.<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La puput t\u00e9 un <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-1-color\">mecanisme de defensa ben peculiar<\/mark><\/strong>: quan se sent amena\u00e7ada, especialment al niu, pot <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-ast-global-color-0-color\">emetre una secreci\u00f3 amb una olor molt forta i desagradable<\/mark><\/strong>. Aquesta \u201cpudor\u201d serveix per espantar depredadors i protegir les cries. De fet, aquesta caracter\u00edstica \u00e9s tan coneguda que en moltes lleng\u00fces populars el nom de la puput est\u00e0 relacionat amb males olors!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un ocell singular, ple de personalitat i amb una pres\u00e8ncia inconfusible als nostres paisatges rurals.
