Participa en la Segona Guerra Mundial com a pilot de la RAF i combat a L\u00edbia, Palestina, Iraq&#8230; fins que el 1940 el fan caure de l&#8217;avi\u00f3 i queda greument ferit.<\/p>\n<p>El 1942 \u00e9s enviat com a agregat militar aeri a Washington, on comen\u00e7ar\u00e0 la seva carrera com a escriptor d&#8217;hist\u00f2ries curtes que publica en diaris i revistes. Tamb\u00e9 escriu alguns guions de pel\u00b7l\u00edcules. El 1960 torna amb la seva fam\u00edlia a Anglaterra, on escriur\u00e0 les seves obres m\u00e9s conegudes.
